Great Hearts

Great Hearts

South Africa, like the rest of the world, was in lockdown for a while in 2020 due to the coronavirus. This meant that the Ubomi Obutsha Centre also had to close its doors. However, the center was not completely closed: they looked at how some form of help could still be provided. Food distribution was particularly necessary. The Ubomi Obutsha Centre provided vouchers to the most vulnerable families so they could get groceries from the supermarket. In this way, the center was able to provide the families with much-needed food during these difficult times.

SUON contributed €12,089 to this.

Mark and Alma to the Netherlands

Mark and Alma to the Netherlands

The director of the Ubomi Obutsha Centre, Mark Lawler, and his wife Alma came to the Netherlands in 2019 with the help of a specially donated amount. In the weeks they were in the Netherlands, we worked together on our new plans (policy plan “Taking Steps”).

We also organized a reunion for all former volunteers and interested parties of the Ubomi Obutsha Centre. Mark, Alma, and all visitors were able to reminisce over snacks and drinks.
